With Russia clinching the 2008 and 2009 world titles with victory in the finals over Canada, many hockey fans and experts hoped that the teams would meet again in the final of the 2010 Olympics.

However, the Canadians pulled together this time to inflict on the Russians a heavy defeat.

Canada will now meet the winner of the match between Sweden and Slovakia in the semifinals .
