Road accidents in China decreased by 10.1%...

The agency said quoting China"s Ministry of Public Security said that a total of 238,000 road accidents were registered in 2009, leaving 67,759 dead and 275,125 wounded.

The ministry added that road accidents caused some $133 million in direct property damages.

Russia hosted the First Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety on November 19-20, 2009 on the request of the UN General Assembly. Government ministers, leaders of private companies and road safety experts were attending.

Officials at the meeting pointed that over 1.3 million people die each year on the world"s roads.
