Swiss top-seed Federer, who holds three Australian Open champion titles, managed to pull himself together after the loss of the first set and won through to the semifinals with a final score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-0, 7-5.

Davydenko, ranked sixth in the ATP ratings, was one of only two players at the tournament, who had not lost a single set on the way to the quarterfinals. The other, Britain"s Andy Murray, secured a place in the semifinals when reigning champion Rafael Nadal retired hurt with two sets down and trailing 3-0 in the third.

Federer will now play the winner of the encounter between Serbia"s Novak Djokovic and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France, while Murray is set to face Croatia"s Marin Cilic.
